A year-old boy with septic shock was admitted to the hospital. One week before admission, he developed cough, congestion, and low-grade fevers followed by complaints of a sore throat 4 days before admission. He developed bilateral conjunctivitis and swelling of the lips with ulcerations 2 days before admission. On arrival to the emergency department, he was febrile, tachycardic, and hypotensive. He was treated with intravenous fluids and a continuous dopamine infusion and transferred to the pediatric inpatient unit.
